Living in Fervent Expectation

Where is Our Stability?

Matthew 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore your eye be single, your whole body shall be full of light. NKJV

Stability by definition is the state of being stable. Something is considered stable when it is firmly fixed, not wavering, or is able to withstand external or internal forces. Buildings can become unstable in a storm. Minds can become unstable because of emotional trauma, real or imagined. Stability can refer to a number of things including relationships, health, chemicals, or emotional conditions.  Yet for our personal sense of stability, what, when disrupted from our norm, gives us  a sense of instability? Is our stability found in our finances, our relationships (spouse, friends, etc.), our home, our job, our health, or something else that makes us feel secure as long as ‘that’ doesn’t experience significant change?

However, all these items can experience significant change. People can leave us, money can disappear quickly, homes can be destroyed, or jobs can be lost. The only thing that will never change is God. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Jesus said that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).  Therefore, Jesus must be our anchor and our place of stability. Everything around us can change, but Jesus never will.

It cannot be Jesus and something else such as our money, or our relationships. Because then our eye is not single. God cannot be our backup plan for whenever instability arises from putting our trust in something other than Jesus. Yes, He will always be available because He is a God of love and grace.  However, if we want to be FULL of light, then we need to have a single eye whose focus is Jesus and Jesus alone.

Make God our only source of stability. Esteem Him above everything else in our lives and trust Him knowing that no matter what comes our way He will always pull us through. As we do, we will see the evidence of His glory in victory.

Beloved let the light of Jesus shine through us to the world to bring life and peace into the darkness. For when your eye is single, trusting in Jesus alone, your whole body will be full of light.

Blessings and Shalom

Scott
